HaulBelly: a compliance platform for launching a trucking business

HaulBelly helps entrepreneurs start a trucking company without drowning in paperwork. Before the first load, a new owner-operator has to form a company and file a stack of registrations — from a USDOT number and MC authority to IFTA and UCR. HaulBelly handles that process for them, so they can focus on operations and growth.

The challenge: seven filings standing between an owner and the first load

Each registration has its own form, its own rules, and its own order. For a new business owner, keeping track of what's done, what's pending, and what's still missing is a job in itself. HaulBelly had a first version of its app and needed a platform that could guide owners through every filing, collect payment, and return the finished documents in one place.

The solution: guided filing forms, a document hub, and payments in one platform

We rebuilt the app on Melt's Startup Starter Kit and built the full filing flow:

• Seven guided forms: LLC Incorporation, USDOT Number, MC Number, Form BOC-3, IFTA Registration, EIN, and Unified Carrier Registration (UCR).

• Onboarding and workspaces: a new owner signs up, creates a workspace, and sees exactly which forms apply.

• Document hub: the status of every form — completed, in progress, or not started — with the documents HaulBelly's team uploads once each filing is done.

• Owner-operator checklist and help center to track the essential steps and find answers.

• Stripe payments so owners pay for their filings as they complete them.

How a dedicated team built it in four weekly sprints

A developer, technical support, and a project manager in one-week sprints: the platform and first five forms, then the remaining forms and the document hub, then onboarding, then payments and admin uploads. Everything was deployed on Vercel from the first sprint.
