Basestone: Mobile-first Construction Collaboration
Case Study: Basestone
Basestone and MeltStudio teamed up to transform Basestone’s web and mobile collaboration platform—empowering engineers to review drawings, track issues, and manage project data in real time. This project improved field-office workflows, cut down administrative overhead, and accelerated project delivery.

THE CHALLENGE
Engineering Teams Needed Real-Time Mobile Tools.
Before Melt’s involvement, Basestone’s platform lacked seamless offline support, scalable architecture, and smooth UX across devices. Engineers faced delays when marking up drawings or logging issues on-site, which hindered efficiency and collaboration between field and office.

OUR SOLUTION
Modern Full‑Stack Rewrite With Mobile‑First UX
Requirements
Simplification
We audited Basestone’s legacy features—drawing annotations, issue workflows, and offline data sync—and defined a streamlined full-stack JS/TypeScript architecture. Clear specs helped avoid scope creep and ensured alignment.
Application
Building
Our team built a unified web and iOS/Android experience using React, React Native, and Node.js. We integrated real-time updates, drawing markups, offline-first syncing, and a reporting dashboard, reducing admin effort on-site.
Prototype
Release
We launched a functional MVP within three months: engineers could markup drawings, log and assign issues in real time from the field, and sync data—even offline. Early beta testers reported immediate productivity gains.

CUSTOMER FEEDBACK
Enhanced Efficiency and User Satisfaction
Post-launch, Basestone saw field engineers spend significantly less time on administrative work—logging issues, syncing, and reporting became seamless. Real-time dashboards improved transparency, helping projects stay on time and on budget.

Thanks, everyone, for the hard work that went into this first beta client. We have now officially released our first Zena report to a client. We will meet with him on Monday to review his candid feedback on what is working well and what needs improvement.
This was a significant step, so we should take a moment to commemorate and celebrate it. We will have two more beta tests in the new year, so the work continues. As we turn the calendar, I wanted to take a moment to appreciate this team. I wish everyone a fantastic start to 2026, and I hope we can continue to build on this promising start.
